Dear David:

	No, I didn't think it was a sure thing in 1968, or I would have
had qualms about betting with a graduate student.  In 1958, I would have
been more confident, but by 1968 I had begun to have some idea of how
slow things could be.  Now I would bet only if I knew someone who intended
to work on it using ideas in which I had confidence, even though I would
consider another bet now to be a fair one.

	I admire your spirit in initiating and contributing to the prize,
and I look forward to your visit.
